Is a 4x8 LED sign the right size?

The most-ordered footprint we build.

At 4.2 ft tall by 8.4 ft wide, a 4x8 LED sign fits the standard monument and pylon cabinets most businesses already have out front, and it is the smallest size that comfortably carries three lines of text plus a logo — or full video.

With 8-inch characters it reads clearly at about 240 feet, which covers a 35–45 mph road with a normal setback. On a 55 mph highway with a long approach, step up to a 5x10 or 6x12 so the text stays legible at speed.

Common buyers: car washes, dealerships, restaurants, churches, fuel stations, medical offices and self-storage. If your frontage is narrow, 3x6 and 4x6 are the usual alternatives.

Rules of thumb used here: 30 ft of readable distance per inch of character height, 7 pixels minimum to form a clean character, and about 2.5 seconds of legible time for a driver to take the message in. A tighter pixel pitch does not change how far a given character reads — it lowers the smallest character the screen can draw, which is what lets it carry more lines and more characters.

Counts are for a 4x8 LED sign and are printed on the packing list. A spare power supply and control card ship with every sign.
Step 01 · Join the sections
Align the 2 sections so the clear hole meets the threaded hole, then fasten with 8 M8 bolts using a 13/14 mm wrench. Open tunnels only ever connect to open tunnels.
Step 02 · X brackets
Place 3 X brackets where four cabinets meet and secure with 12 M10 bolts. These keep the cabinets square.
Step 03 · Mounting brackets
Fit 12 L brackets to the pre-drilled holes on the rear frame with 24 M10 bolts, then attach to your wall, pole or monument structure.
Electrical
2 × 20 A circuits
Each of the 2 sections takes its own dedicated 20 A circuit per face — 4 for a double-sided build. Total draw is about 28 A at 110V, or 14 A at 220V, per face.
Wiring order
Brightness sensor to the 4-pin port, antenna to the 9-pin PoE port, power to the 3-pin input, then daisy-chain video out to each additional section.
Structural load

Per face, at 10 lbs per square foot. Have your engineer confirm the existing structure before a retrofit.
